Over 35 Years of Service to Country and Commonwealth
Margaret has dedicated her professional career to serving Kentucky and our country. Now she’s extending that service by becoming the Democratic candidate for Kentucky House of Representatives—33rd District.
As a Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy—both active and reserve—Margaret served for more than 10 years in intelligence and logistics in the Washington, D.C. area, Santa Barbara and Long Beach, CA, and Japan.
Kentucky Leadership and Service
Margaret then extended her public service through over 20 years of leadership positions in Kentucky state government, including:
Deputy commissioner of Veteran’s Affairs in two administrations
Saving Kentucky more than $1 million through the creation of a strong safety program for long-term care units in state veterans’ homes
Coordinating passage of legislation for service-disabled veteran-owned businesses
Deputy commissioner of the Department for Vehicle Regulation
Statewide coordinator of the Teen Tobacco Compliance Program
Director of a program to reform the non-emergency Medicaid transportation program, eliminating waste, abuse, and fraud
Margaret also has extensive experience with the legislative process and management, serving as legislative liaison for the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
Broad Understanding of the Commonwealth
Margaret has a deep understanding of the challenges faced by House District 33 and the Commonwealth, including the importance of responsible economic development. Born in Louisville where she also lived with her daughter Linton for 10 years, Margaret has traveled the state extensively and understands Kentucky from a broad perspective.
In-Depth Knowledge of Governmental Affairs
Margaret also brings a wide knowledge base and in-depth experience in governmental affairs to her candidacy. She earned her B.A. in political science from Denison University, her M.A. in International Affairs from Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C., and her J.D. from Chase College of Law, Northern KY University.
She also holds an executive certificate from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government in strategic management of regulatory affairs and decision-making skills.
